You found your gift. You've done the soul work. And somewhere along the way, you sensed there was still more.

You were right.

There is a dimension of the Redemptive Gifts teaching that most Christians never reach — not because it's hidden, but because the soul work alone keeps us occupied for years. Identifying your dominant gift, walking through its wounding, breaking its generational curses, moving from immature expression toward the fullness God intended — that's a journey. This series has walked that journey with you, article by article.

But your soul is not the whole of you. You are spirit, soul, and body.

And your spirit — the part Scripture says can become one with God's Spirit — carries not one design but seven portions. Each one mirrors a Redemptive Gift. Each one has a character, a capacity, a voice. And each one is meant to come fully alive.

1. Soul vs Spirit: The Distinction That Changes Everything

When Arthur Burk first presented the framework of the seven Redemptive Gifts, the primary focus was on the soul — specifically, the motivational gift God encoded into your design before you were formed (Romans 12:6–8, Jeremiah 1:5). This is the lens through which you process life, the problem-solving posture that comes most naturally, the place where your greatest strengths and your sharpest wounds both reside.

But you are more than your soul.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 makes the tripartite nature of the human being explicit:

Spirit. Soul. Body. Three distinct dimensions, each with a role in the fullness of who you are.

Your soul carries one Redemptive Gift — the specific design God wired into you uniquely. Think of it as your primary instrument in the orchestra of human experience. You play it whether you're aware of it or not.

Your spirit is different. Arthur Burk's teaching, grounded in decades of prayer ministry and Scripture, describes seven portions within the human spirit — each one mirroring one of the seven Redemptive Gifts. Your spirit isn't limited to one instrument. It has the capacity to carry all seven, to grow into the fullness of the whole orchestra.

The distinction matters because the work is different. Discovering your soul gift is largely about recognition and alignment — naming what God already placed in you, stripping away the layers of wounding and performance to find the original design. Building your spirit is about maturity and healing — calling forward portions that have been dormant, wounded, locked away, or hijacked entirely.

This is not about becoming someone else. It's about becoming fully yourself. The more your spirit matures, the more you carry of the nature of Christ — who embodied all seven gifts without limitation.

A word of caution: the wounded column is not a diagnosis — it's an invitation to honest reflection. Most of us have portions that have been operating from a wounded place for so long that the pseudo-version feels normal. Part of the work is learning to recognise the difference between a portion that is genuinely alive and one that is working overtime to compensate for something broken underneath.

3. What Blocks the Portions from Building Your Spirit to Carry All 7 Gifts

Here is the reality we don't truly understand as we begin this journey: not all of your spirit portions may be present and accounted for when you start this work.

God created time and space, and His principles govern them. The enemy, however, has found ways to distort and disrupt what God created — not to override God's authority, but to work around it in ways that wound, fracture, and diminish. This is not territory I can fully explain theologically. What I can tell you is what I discovered in my own journey: some portions had been hidden. Some had been hijacked. One had been effectively exiled by the others.

Common blocks include:

• Inner vows made in moments of pain — “I will never be vulnerable again,” “I will never let that portion show” — that shut a portion out of operation (Read more about this topic here)
• Generational lines carrying patterns of wounding specific to a particular portion — a grandmother's Mercy gift that was crushed, a grandfather's Prophet gift that was silenced
• Trauma that distorted a portion into a pseudo-version — the controlling pseudo-Prophet, the servile pseudo-Mercy, the domineering pseudo-Ruler
• Enemy interference that found a door through unhealed wounds, agreements, or ungodly beliefs
• Bitter judgements and expectations that we've come to believe and live out as our truth
• Portions and parts that were ostracised by the others — through lies the other portions and parts came to believe
  

This last one is less commonly discussed, and it may be the most confronting. The portions of your spirit can function like a community. And like any community, they can divide. They can exclude. They can believe things about one another that simply are not true.

What matters is this: whatever the enemy distorts, God can restore. He was there first. He knew your spirit before the enemy touched it. And the work of sanctification — which is always, in the end, God's work with our willing participation — is about making whole what was broken. Making real what was always true.

4. A Story from My Own Spirit: The Prophet Who Lived Outside the Camp

A word of caution - this work is not linear. It is not comfortable. You learn things you didn't know you needed to learn. You bump into walls inside yourself that you didn't know were there. You get beaten up. You go to God. He helps you reset. You learn again.

About seven years ago, I was working with a trusted prayer partner — someone I had come to trust wholeheartedly as we'd journeyed together in prayer ministry. I had recently come to understand my primary Redemptive Gift (Servant), and we were exploring the seven spirit portions — getting a feel for each one, learning who they were and how they showed up in my life.

What I found with my Prophet portion was totally unexpected.

Every other portion had a place inside my spirit's internal community. But my Prophet portion was living outside the camp. Excluded. Solitary.

It turned out that he had been doing the heavy lifting for years — carrying the weight of discernment, warning, and spiritual reading of situations — without complaint, and without acknowledgement from the others. And somewhere along the way, my other portions had believed a lie about him. They'd decided he was the problem. So they'd pushed him out.

My Servant portion — and if you know the Servant gift at all, this will make sense — was the one who moved first.

She's the one who knows how to read the room and act at the right moment. She went to the others and called them to account. She mediated. She brought them to the place where they could see what they'd actually done — believed a lie, excluded one of their own, and diminished the whole community as a result.

After much work, what happened next was a reconciliation I still find difficult to describe. My Prophet was welcomed back. Not as a tolerated outsider, but as a rightful member of the whole. And something in me came online that had been unavailable for years — an authority, a clarity, a capacity to move in my dominion calling that I hadn't been able to access before.

I didn't engineer that. God did. My prayer partner and I simply showed up and asked Him to help us make sense of the mess. He did the rest.

I tell you this because the invitation to build your spirit to carry all 7 gifts isn't a program. It's a relationship. You and God. You and trusted people who will hold space while He works. And it requires you to be willing to be surprised by what you find inside yourself — not just the beauty, but the brokenness that God is waiting to restore.

5. What Healing Makes Possible: A Testimony from Prayer Ministry

I've recently begun working with Christina (not her real name) whose primary Redemptive Gift is Mercy. Like so many of us, she's had to work through years of wounding.

Christina's Mercy portion had never been able to take its rightful place due to generational as well as deep personal trauma. In its absence, a pseudo-Prophet portion had moved in and taken over from time to time — harsh, controlling, brittle. It was like a security guard who'd long since forgotten what he was guarding. Doing the work without any of the life.  But lots of condemnation and shaming.

As shared, she's worked hard, over many years of prayer ministry — time spent with Jesus, specific inner healing work, and the slow, steady process of going around the same mountains again and again.

We met through her finding this series on the Redemptive Gifts and she went on to buy my book, Designed for Destiny before starting a 90-day Healing and Wholeness Sprint.  

We started by me sending a series of specially tailored recorded blessings that she played over her Mercy portion each week.  Something shifted. 

And then, after our first official session, her Mercy gift having spent some intentional, private time with Jesus, invited all her portions, but especially her Prophet portion to step forward and engage with her. For the very first time, the two were able to engage in a healthy conversation.  Without shame. Without fear.

Christina noticed a solid, settled wholeness inside of her.  She experienced joy and the kind of quiet, powerful authority that only comes from healing.  

Her Prophet portion had been sidelined by a Pseudo-Prophet portion and to meet her real Prophet Portion, who was kind, gentle clean and clear in the way he engaged with her was a relief, revelation and a release.

What Arthur Burk describes as the conductor of the orchestra — that capacity of your primary Gift, in this case Mercy, to draw on every other portion's resources and bring them into harmony — Christina experienced it for the first time. Not as a concept. As a reality in her own spirit.

She shared how she'd always felt intimidated by Rulers — their pace, their productivity, their organising energy. She'd felt shamed by comparison. But with her Mercy portion healed and in place, she had something new: the freedom to set boundaries that brought her joy, not just protection. The Ruler's energy no longer threatened her. She could draw from it without being overwhelmed by it.

That is what this work makes possible. Not a better version of who you've always been. Something closer to who God always intended you to be.

6. Jesus Carried All Seven: What That Means for You

Every study of Jesus through the lens of the Redemptive Gifts confirms the same thing: He embodied all seven, fully and without limitation.

• His Prophet portion called truth with devastating precision.
• His Servant portion moved at the exact right moment — always.
• His Teacher brought order to chaos.
• His Exhorter saw the process of redemption and walked people through it.
• His Giver stewarded everything He was given. 
• His Ruler built the eternal Kingdom with a framework that hasn't needed revision.
• His Mercy hosted the presence of God and drew people into it.

He is the fullness we are growing toward.

This is not about striving to be something you aren't. It's about yielding to the One whose Spirit lives in you — and allowing His fullness to bring your fractured, exiled, hijacked, and dormant portions back to life. Your spirit joined to His Spirit has the capacity for all seven. That is not pride. That is what Scripture promises.

We aren't meant to live on milk. The meat of this — the deeper work, the harder work, the work that costs you something — is the invitation to grow up fully in Him (Ephesians 4:15). Not as an achievement. As a surrender.

7. How Do You Begin Building Your Spirit to Carry All 7 Gifts?

My experience is that this not a five-step program that you follow by rote. Every journey is unique and different.  But there are starting points — concrete, practical, and rooted in what actually works in prayer ministry practice.  Choose the ones below you feel led to start today:

1. Speak to your spirit out loud. This may feel strange. Do it anyway. Scripture is full of people speaking to spiritual realities — Paul speaks to the body in Romans 7, Jesus speaks to storms, the Psalms are full of the author addressing their own soul. Say: “Spirit of [your name], I call you to attention and ask you to come to the front in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge you. You matter to God and you matter to me.” — Acknowledge your spirit directly
2. Go through each of the seven portions by name. Speak life over them. Call them what God made them to be. Acknowledge that they exist even if you can’t feel them. Where one has been exiled or wounded, invite God’s light in before you ask anything of it. — Name each portion and bless it
3. Your spirit grows in God’s presence. Worship is not optional here — it is fuel. Scripture read slowly, as bread rather than information, feeds your spirit differently than your soul. Prophetic prayer, soaking, and stillness before God all create the environment in which dormant portions begin to stir. — Feed your spirit intentionally
4. This is not solo work. The reconciliation in my own spirit happened with a trusted prayer partner holding the space.
